2013-5-24-REE_StocksFor the first time in what must be at least 7 years, I am not at the Cambridge House Show. Suffering from something called a ‘frozen shoulder’ from apparently too many hours at a keyboard, I am grounded in Toronto for the next 6 weeks working with the ‘Chiropractor to the Stars’ – Dr. Allan Oolo Austin.

It was not my intention to hunt down a lobby filled with star shots, but he came highly recommended and so here I am at the office Sunday morning with frozen lima beans on my shoulder and reviewing the always impressive to-do list.

As many of you know, we have the only FTSE calculated rare earth index in the world. The REE Leaders Index (REEL) highlights the top 15 publicly owned companies that have exploration, production or separation of rare earth elements as one of their primary activities and may be accessed on the upper right hand corner of ProEdgeWire.

On Monday, May 20th the REE Leaders Index opened at 450 and closed on Friday, May 24th at 444 points: down -1.33% for the week. For the month of May 2013 already, the REE Leaders Index opened on May 1st at 441 – so we are practically flat in May, up +0.68%.

ProEdgeWire’s corporate members averaged down -1.01%, with 5 sponsors making positive strides:

  • Orbite Aluminae’s OTCQX: EORBF up +38.03%, TSX: ORT was up +25.32%
  • Pele Mountain’s OTCQX: GOLDF up +21.74, TSXV: GEM up +10%
  • IBC Advanced Alloys OTCQX: IAALF up +19.63%, TSX.V: IB up +4.17%
  • Tasman Metals’ NSE MKT: TAS up +15.36%, followed by their TSXV: TSM up +13.92%
  • Stans Energy OTCQX: HREEF was up 5.26%

I am working on an update for FTSE this week on the REE Stocks universe list, which qualifies companies with the following criteria:

  • rare earth elements’ exploration, production or separation generate at least 30% of their corporate income (or projected income) and/or
  • they spend at least 30% of their corporate investment (or projected investment) on rare earth elements’ exploration, production or separation and/or
  • they produce or separate at least 3,000 tons of REE ores and/or carbonates and/or oxides and/or metals (elements) per annum and/or
