June 13, 2013 — ST. LOUIS (Source: St Louis Post) — A solar-powered plane on Friday will take off from Lambert-St. Louis International Airport for its next stop on its cross-country flight.

The Solar Impulse is scheduled to take off at 4 a.m. Friday and will make a pit stop at Cincinnati Municipal Lunken Airport before embarking for Washington’s Dulles International Airport on Saturday.

Friday’s takeoff ceremony is not open to the public. But the lightweight plane has been on display to hundreds of visitors since its June 4 arrival at Lambert.

The Solar Impulse plane is actually a prototype. The organizers plan to fly another solar-powered plane around the world in 2015.
