Bringing ZEN Graphene Solutions to the world of nanomaterial technologies
It’s been demonstrated that graphite is an excellent mineral with several unique properties. For example, graphite is a conductor of heat and electricity, and it retains the highest natural strength even at extreme high temperatures. Graphite is a rather common mineral, but fine crystals are rare.
Graphene (a single atomic layer of graphite) takes this to a new level with incredible strength (the strongest material ever discovered), flexibility, and conductance of heat and electrons.
Zenyatta Ventures Ltd. (soon “ZEN Graphene Solutions”)
Zenyatta Ventures Ltd. (TSXV: ZEN) soon to be called ‘ZEN Graphene Solutions’ plans to become the source of some of the world’s best pre-cursor materials for the production of high quality graphene. Independent labs in Japan, UK, Israel, USA and Canada have demonstrated that Zenyatta’s Albany Graphite easily converts (exfoliates) to graphene, using a variety of simple mechanical and chemical methods.
The Albany Graphite Deposit
The Company’s Albany Graphite Deposit is open pit and underground project has a total indicated resource of 24.3 Mt containing 968,000 tonnes of graphitic carbon at a grade of 3.98%. The materials produced from their Albany deposit are just 1-4 layers thick, and have very high dispersion qualities – making them ideal for composites like concrete, rubber, and plastics. Nearby infrastructure include hydro-power, natural gas pipeline, a rail line 50 km away, and an all-weather road just 10 km from the deposit.
Some changes ahead
The new Zenyatta (ZEN Graphene Solutions) will be dedicated to developing new nano-material technologies and composites with its team of researchers and industrial partners. The company’s cutting-edge research is leading to novel patent protected inventions with the view to become an Intellectual Property incubator.
One of these cutting edge novel inventions is the research studies being conducted on the tailings (waste) material for potential application as a partial cement replacement material. If confirmed it should have positive implications for project economics and create a potential by-product revenue stream. Work is being conducted by Dr. Ahmad Rteil at the University of British Columbia. This will test if the tailings chemistry has potential as a partial cement replacement in concrete. The test work now underway includes a 90 day strength measuring on concrete made with tailings used as cement replacement with results expected in 4 months.
Graphene has some extraordinary properties
The Albany Creek Bulk Sampling program
On January 2019 the Company provided an update on the now fully permitted 2019 bulk sampling program on the Albany Graphite Project. The main purpose of the program is to recover a large sample of the graphite mineralization in order to generate graphene product samples for market development purposes. The program is expected to generate up to 40 tons of 99.8% purity graphene pre-cursor material.
The Company has now received the final two permits: One for permission to collect the 990 tonne sample; and second, an exploration permit to drill the large holes required covering the sample from the overburden-covered Albany Deposit.
Dr. Francis Dubé Co-CEO stated: “This bulk sampling program is critical to the further development of the exciting graphene product opportunity that we have confirmed with our research partners over the past few months. This work will also help us discover the market value of ZEN’s graphene products.”
What does Zenyatta and Zen mean?
Zenyatta means to meet unrealistic expectations, do things that shouldn’t be done, defy all logic, and leave observers with a loss for ways to describe awesomeness.
Zen is a total state of focus that incorporates a total togetherness of body and mind. Zen involves dropping illusion and seeing things without distortion created by your own thoughts.
Zenyatta has a good size and quality resource with unique fine crystals that are readily convertible to graphene, a safe jurisdiction, recently capitalized, numerous opportunities to sell into the graphene market, and a potential new revenue source using their tailings to produce super strong cement. Investors will require some patience; however there can be little doubt that Zenyatta is moving in the right direction and creating a bit of “Zen”.
