Gratomic focuses on the new “super” material destined to alter the future

Gratomic Inc. (TSXV: GRAT) is a Canadian-based junior exploration company headquartered in Toronto, with two graphite projects in Namibia and Canada. They focus on mining and the commercialization of graphite products, specifically the nano based material graphene. Gratomic has a partnership with Perpetuus Carbon Technologies Limited, which is an advanced material manufacturer primarily focused on surface engineered carbon structures such as graphene.

The simplest way to describe graphene is that it is a single, super thin layer of graphite (one atomic layer). Graphene’s incredible strength despite being so thin is already enough to make it amazing. It is 200 times stronger than steel and is super-flexible; however its unique properties do not end there. It is also transparent, highly conductive, and seemingly impermeable to most gases and liquids. The Company state: “Early large volume consumption of graphenes derived from graphite will be driven by the elastomers, polymer composites, energy capture and storage applications market.” Possible applications for graphene include tyres, advanced composites, batteries, and much more. The tyre industry is huge. It is estimated that by 2019, 3 billion tyres will be sold globally every year. According to Gratomic, graphene is being tested by 7 major tyre manufacturers with potential demand of >10,000 tonnes p.a.

Aukam Graphite Project (flagship project)

The Aukam Project (63% owned) is located in southern Namibia close to the port city of Luderitz. The property covers an area of 63,072 hectares (630 square kilometres) in the Karas region. There is year round road access to the Aukam project from paved Highway B4. The infrastructure in the area is good with nearby power from the national grid, water from underground aquifers and a rail link adjacent to Highway B4. In addition to the underground workings on the property, there are five dumps that remain from historical mining. These dumps still contain significant graphite and assays of samples taken during detailed sampling on a 10m x 10m grid ranged between 3.98 and 57.07% Cg (carbon as graphite) and averaged 20.04% Cg.

On May 7, 2018 Gratomic announced, “that its Aukam processing plant has been commissioned successfully and an initial shipment of graphite concentrate has been made. To date, the plant has generated 4.5 tonnes of graphite concentrate grading between 88%-95% Carbon as Graphite (“Cg”) of which 2.25 tonnes of concentrate has been shipped to Perpetuus Carbon Technologies (Perpetuus) for the manufacture of graphenes to be used in the automobile and bicycle tire industry. ”

Buckingham Graphite Project

The Buckingham Graphite project (100% owned) covers 480 hectares located 7 kilometres northwest of Buckingham, Quebec, Canada. Gravel roads lead directly to the property and bush roads provide access to the interior. Results from the diamond drilling program have now been received from six holes, with assays up to 16.64% Cg (carbon as graphite) over 18 metres in drill hole CK18-07.

The Company is also in the process of establishing Blockchain technology to facilitate the distribution and sale of Gratomic’s graphene products.

Gratomic has a market cap of C$12.5 m.

Many major tech companies in Asia are conducting research on graphene, including mobile giant Samsung. Graphene seems like a magic material that one day could see mankind achieve great things. There just seems to be a use for it everywhere you look, and certainly the tyre market opportunity is enormous. Today’s new “super” material has the potential to alter the future, so it seems like a good time to consider investing in Gratomic.
