The Inevitable Rise in the Chinese Demand for Graphite

December 7, 2012 — “The question is when their (Chinese) internal demand for Graphite goes up, where will the availability come from?” asks Alastair Neill P.Eng., who sits on the Board of Directors for Mason Graphite Inc. (TSX-V:LLG). In this interview, Tracy Weslosky Publisher of ProEdgeWire ( discusses with Alastair the unique aspects of the graphite market; outlining the role the Chinese play and discussing the future growth of the graphite market based on its importance to help produce lithium ion batteries and other special end use applications. Alastair concludes the interview by outlining the potential in the Lac Guéret Project by Mason Graphite Inc. in Northeastern Quebec. He cites that the average grade of graphite (20.4%) is comparable to 9.1grams per tonne in gold; reporting grades from an average of 20% to 27%. In turn, this makes Mason Graphite Inc. a company with one of the highest grade graphite deposits known in the world.

    Enjoyed listening to your interview with Alastair of Mason Graphite.
    I was surprised that you did’t ask him about the quality of graphite which is more important if they are thinking about Li battery. May be they don’t know yet!

  2. Thanks Sethu – I thought I did ask Alastair, but we did not invest as much time on this topic as we should have. Alastair states in our interview that the average grade of graphite is 20.4%.

    Could you comment on the size and distribution of the graphite flakes and the purity. Do they have any idea on what will be required to get it to battery grade?
