Last week, the average change in share price of GraphiteBlog sponsors (between close of market on Monday, August 13, 2012 and close of market on Friday, August 17, 2012) was nearly flat, down 4.38%. Share price increase leaders had no news, but both Rainbow Resources Inc. (TSXV: RBW) (+13.95%) and Focus Graphite Inc. (TSXV: FMS) (+3.03%) were up this week.

As my new regular baseline for the graphite market, we will measure one of the largest wholesale suppliers of fine-grain and high-purity graphite and a top overall producer of carbon and graphite products in China, China Carbon Graphite Group Inc. (OTCQB: CHGI). Last week (August 15, 2012) they announced their second quarter results and compared to Q2 results from 2011, revenue has decreased by 2.2%; net income has decreased by 1.3%; and gross profit has increased by 7.6%. China Carbon Graphite’s share price also decreased last week by 4.44%.
The only client news last week was Standard Graphite Corp. (TSXV: SGH) announcing the closing of a non-brokered private placement for $787,500 receiving approval from the TSX Venture Exchange. The proceeds of this financing will be used for additional exploration at their Quebec and Ontario properties (read more).
