During the month we also continued to
follow the global developments of our sector with a focus research and
development. We explained creating Cheap Graphene From Waste (August
28, 2012) and debated Will Nokia Be First To Market? (August
20,2012) with its patent application for graphene based photos sensors. There
has also been no shortage of scientists and educational institutions focused on
learning more about graphite’s unique properties. In Graphene Magic from MIT (August 14,
2012) we highlight “…some surprising graphene news from the scientists at
America’s MIT. Graphene’s properties alter with the material it’s wrapped
around.” (read

In The Graphene Photocatalyst Breakthrough
(August 27, 2012) we explained that researchers at the
Korea Research Institute of Chemical Technology in Daejon, South Korea, and
Ewha Womans University in Seoul, South Korea, have demonstrated that graphene
alone could become the basis for super-efficient photocatalyst in an artificial
photosynthesis system. “Basically, their achievement in using graphene to
convert sunlight and carbon dioxide into formic acid, has big implications for
fuel cell development and in the plastics and pharmaceutical industries. If
nothing else, they just might have found a new industrial use for all the waste
carbon dioxide generated by industry. Best of all, converted by graphene and
using free sunlight. Graphene will transform the 21st century.” (read
) On August 29, 2012, we also highlighted that Manchester University in England will soon to be home the UK’s National Graphene Institute. Construction
is expected to begin in the first quarter of 2013 with completion in the third
quarter of 2014. (read
